Home Made Barbeque

44 Gallon Vertical Barbeque

I made a quick 44 gallon "Vertical Barbeque" Yesterday, It's not quite complete yet as I'm going to widen the top a little to fit some grill plates I have, and add a removable grill for ash to fall through just above the Ash collection door at the base of the drum.

Essentially it can be a 3 tier system though, I can use it for burning off before summers, I can seal the ash collection door back to the barrel with some hinges and still have the lid so I can also convert it into a Compost bin once I'm finished with it, (If I manage it right, it won't be too difficult to reattach the lid, and turn it on it's side creating a rolling compost bin that will perform many times better than a standard one)

Other advantages to this design are easy modification to the system, I can weld two arms to either side of it ready to accept a spit, Plans for the future also include a makeshift chimney to keep the smoke out of the way, When the ash collection area is full and glowing it will be possible to cook roasts and dampers / Potatos etc while still using the barbeque plate.

Only took a few hours, if I had better tools it would've taken less time but my grinder wanted to overheat alot.

I've also setup a basic water collection system using these barrels, I'll take some pictures and show them soon.
